I am an internet sales manager. I take calls, I take photos, I check email and, of course, I have a mobile CRM tool.
I use a few apps, too. Like vAuto, and the Chevy mobile…Continue
Just watched this embeded video after reading up on so many posts this past week. One important take-away. We still have to manage our Google Plus and our Google Places pages separately. In the future, they will be combined. Not yet.
One thing I did notice this a.m. is that the home page link…Continue
If I pay a customer to say all the right things in an online review, that breaks the law, and we know it. We know you and I cannot pay, reward or incentivize a customer to write good things about us in in a Google Review, Dealer Rater rating or Yelp! blog.
So, does that mean we shouldn't incentivize every…Continue
Here is a link to the latest communication from the Virginia Auto Dealers Association, in the wake of the March 12 follow-up meeting, where the TrueCar issues were discussed.
As the memo states:
"There are other issues, about which…Continue

Have you been following the story online this past weekend about the generous tip left by Peyton Manning at the Raleigh, NC, restaurant Angus Barn the previous weekend, and the server who posted the receipt online?
Here's a recap:
And, as you can imagine,…Continue

Yes, everyone's a critic. And everyone's an expert, when it comes to advertising. And the Super Bowl is the Super Bowl... of... well... advertising. This blog post is so dead-on, I just had to share it. It's the latest post from Peter De Lorenzo's…Continue

TrueCar.com is on its way out. That's not to say that it's back to business as usual.
Consumer information regarding vehicle prices, for car shoppers in the purchase funnel, is a valuable thing. It's why TrueCar, Edmunds, KBB are still in business, and why dealer-facing sites like vAuto are equally…Continue
Don't get me wrong. We are a TrueCar.com affiliate, and I am a true believer in the power of online transparency, so please don't think I don't appreciate their value as a marketing partner. In fact, TrueCar (formerly known as ZAG) leads have typically been at the top of our list of…
I am still in love with this job, and I think it’s in large part because it’s about keeping an open mind and always learning -- I'd hate to be in a job that wasn't. Each time I’ve reached out…Continue

At the beginning of the month, DrivingSales.com posted an entry from an internet sales manager who deserves our support.
As you may already know, ZAG markets a rock-bottom-priced, build-it-your-way car buying service that delivers a members-only (or employees-only), guaranteed-low-price benefit for participants with USAA, NRA, Geico, Bank of America, Consumer…Continue

Yesterday's NYT has an article about the state of online reviews that is particularly topical for our industry.
It's been about a month since Google placed new emphasis on their own members' reviews in search engine results and relegated the…Continue

Okay, I don't know that Google is indeed punishing us, but here's what a Google Maps search result looks like when I enter the search terms "Chevrolet dealer in Chester, Virginia." Screen shot below.
This has been going on for 2-3 weeks, coinciding with the changes in the Google Places pages that we have been discussing here on ADM and elsewhere. We have a decent Places page, by the way, no problem there.
See that red dot at Chester on the map? That's our…Continue
We take pride in our Facebook page, and we try to put into practice a lot of the good advice here on ADM and elsewhere, on the tone and content of our social media, with decent results. You can link to the page via our dealership web site (a new page opens when you click the "f" icon) and via our OEM site (our Facebook page is framed in there).
About three or four weeks ago, we noticed that -- unless you are already logged into Facebook -- you cannot see our wall any more. …Continue

The Google Chrome team just published "Twenty Things I Learned About Browsers and the Web," illustrated by Christoph Neimann. The illustration above gives you a pretty good idea of its tone, but it was kind of nice to read, and it does a good job clarifying some of the technical jargon I really don't understand. You can find it online at…Continue
