This week I had a number of calls with car dealers asking about Wordpress microsites
. They heard that microsites could be an effective marketing option for their business to create "first party" sales leads. The conversation always comes down to one question: "What domain should I buy?"
Since there is a great deal of confusion about buying domain names, I thought I would share by thoughts. Domian names… Continue

Today I noticed a strange trend that may have been going on for some time but today it caught my attention. I was in Google and searched using this phrase “ford memorial day sale” and on Google Page One , there were two listings that were very odd because of their syntax:

If you have ever thought that Google search engine displays a boring list of search results, you are in for a pleasant surprise. Google organic search results are getting more interesting to read as Google is adding icons to different classes of search result links. One trend that I observed are very encouraging to business owners who are using press releases to promote their business.
Google must be in the process of creating categories of Internet posts and deciding if the category… Continue

I'm back in New Jersey after the red eye flight home and I’m exhausted. This was my first year at the event and it was a great opportunity to meet with other automotive professionals. Many wanted to learn how to improve the… Continue

Ford Motor Company announced this week a program called the Ford Advantage Plan
which is similar to the popular plan announced months ago by Hyundai.
The Ford Advantage Plan lets consumers buy or lease a new Ford, Lincoln or Mercury vehicle with the peace of mind of the Ford Payment Protection Program. When this program was announced one of my Ford clients jumped on an idea and purchased a domain called… Continue

Automotive retailers have been contacting me lately to ask how they can use Twitter to keep in front of their existing customers as well as to reach new customers. There are a number of emails claiming that business owners can build 10,000+ member "opt-in" email lists in just days using Twitter.
I thought it was time to make some initial comments as I continue to test how to leverage Twitter for clients. There are no EASY ways to generate an opt-in email list of 10,000+ consumers but… Continue

When I meet with dealerships to discuss their Automotive SEO
strategies the conversation always seem to turn to marketing outside their official PMA. They ask how SEO can be used to get web traffic for people who search for "towns" in or near their major competitors. They are confident that they have done a good job of marketing in their own town and directly adjoining communities.
With automotive sales in the "crapper", dealers are looking for… Continue

Over the last few months I have been testing the value of publishing car inventory listings to a group of free websites. The idea behind this test was to measure the effectiveness of the time needed to post cars based on the increase of:
1. Car Sales
2. Web Traffic
3. Inbound Links (for automotive SEO purposes)
This is "Part One" in a series that I plan to write tracking the value of free car listing services. This is the introductory article with some initial… Continue

A well-tuned Google Adwords (PPC) campaign is extremely effective in generating car sales leads. Pay per click advertising, when combined with a good landing page, can deliver an excellent ROI. Google display and banner ads, even when they are not clicked, can also increase brand awareness in your local market. If you are not using Google Adwords, you are making your competitors very happy.
During difficult economic times, everyone is evaluating their spending, so I thought I would… Continue

In recent days, Google has started to offer instant Flash "like" ads that can run in your existing Google Adwords accounts.
I created a few ads using this new offering and actually I am very pleased with the final product. The image on the left is one of the ads I created as a test for a product that we are promoting. The ad text actually "moves" as well as the logo and images.
Basically, if you have a logo and a photo of a car,… Continue
