Slow Down or Pay Up

Your city is on the hunt, poaching speeders one by one in an attempt to squeeze cents out of you and knock sense into you. If you're a chronic speeder and haven't gotten caught, consider yourself lucky. But for most speeders, they know that heart-sinking feeling of flying past a cop going too…

Auto Dealer Data Leakage - Data Reports, Lock'm Down - DTG Digital Efficiency

The Data War is raging.

Added after initial post:

My suggestion of Locking Down Critical Dealership Data Fields has generated interesting feedback on other thread(s). The jury is out here on why others are not jumping on board with the suggestion of starving the beast by restricting which data is accessible to a VERY limited number of intermediary data polling services. Don't mind me for trying to keep this simple... That is what I do... I look at things (mostly digital) and…

David T. Gould Reply to Thomas A. Kelly - Automotive Dealer Data Access - Data Fields, Lock'm Down

Tom - DMV does play into this. They are wrong for selling personal data as well when it is without the permission of the original owner. As far as I am concerned, find money for the bridge elsewhere. Just like TrueCar, people are turning their backs on their personal information with an illusion that they may be saving money... Meanwhile, their personal information is being bought and sold by a very few tech savy companies. As stated elsewhere, this data accumulation business is in the multi…

Don't Look Down...I Said Don't Look Down!

It's absolutely amazing...we humans. Creatures of habit, intrigue and fear-based reactivity. Right now is no exception, obviously! However, it is also possibly one of the most defining times as well. True leaders will come out of these challenges and leave those that just waited behind.

Survival of the fittest? Nope. Natural selection? Not in the least. Those that listen, learn and lead will become the only true survivors in the new environment, whatever that is. A constant… Continue

What NADA Showed Us And How We Can Learn

Last weekend's NADA show had all of the makings for a great show: vendors, timing, speakers and even terrific weather (for New Orleans in winter). The one thing that was missed: the D in NADA. Without the dealers, it's a relatively expensive industry supplier meeting. As the trade show and the main body of the industry in the US, it's the dealers' best resource for gettin' er' done. I've never walked around unabated.

This is not a blast on the NADA, its leadership or affiliates.… Continue

The Step You Cut Out In 2009...Might Be You

Fact is, more often than not, when you cut corners in sales the one that is affected most is you. It is also a fact of business life that we're replaceable, as I've experienced myself. Why is it then that most people don't typically go the extra mile, especially when it is so needed?

This is not to say that there are not plenty of go-getters out there. Today it is critically important to think about making the most of every opportunity, especially with fewer prospects and less… Continue

Sharing The Pain, Silver Bullets and You

What is it that drives someone to perform? Along with the given family, friends, clients, bosses, partners and other tangibles and intangibles, it's simply that person's desire. Two things are clearly evident in the auto industry today: it's inextricably tied to the economy (if not one of the biggest drivers) and that companies reap what they sow, sometimes for an undeservedly long time. You can't change the economy but you can absolutely control what you do.

It's not rocket science… Continue

Automotive Ad spending declines in Q1; 2008 seen as a down year - Digital Advertising Rises

DETROIT -- Amid the U.S. auto industry’s worst new-vehicle sales year in a decade, all but the top two automakers -- General Motors and Toyota Motor Corp. -- hit the brakes on measured media spending in the first quarter. And it doesn’t look like they’ll be letting up soon.

Both automakers beefed up TV spending through March: GM to $309 million from $297 million a year ago and Toyota to… Continue
