I'm so pleased to have Marc McGurren on the PCG Consulting team. Marc is a great teacher and leader and I'm learning more each week about the opportunities and profit leaks in dealership Internet departments.
Over the past few months I have been asking dealer principals and GM's to rate their Internet/BDC…

Wrtitten by a dear friend of AutoMax's Mr.Tom Wiegand,would love to hear your input on this subject. Baseball & Auto Pie
The professional franchised retail auto industry and the professional franchised baseball industry are my two all-time favorite franchise systems. Why are they so obviously different in structure and customer retention?
The professional franchised baseball team is structured:
Pssst, I want to tell you a Secret. But you cannot tell anyone. Please keep this under wraps. M5 Management Services™ President and CEO Lee Harkins has gone slightly crazy. He is advising clients to stop selling the business. If the word gets out M5™ will be out of business in its first year of performance coaching and training. I am asking you not to tell other managers or dealers of this secret going on in our organization.
Lee Harkins whose client list reads like a who’s who of… Continue

When times get tough we need to push the envelope of positive thinking even higher. Just working a few deals these days can get you down. The credit scores are getting worse(have you seen this). The vehicle of interest is getting older and cheaper. And the dealers are getting nervous, again. Popping in your favorite Car guru in the CD player is always a must for me to keep things in a better perspective. I have a lot of good old stuff and some newer things I pull off of the podcasts. Some of my… Continue
My dealership needs a minimum twenty percent reduction in costs to ensure our survival in the market place.
Like many dealerships, we were looking to reduce our expense structure. After months of watching the numbers come in and working hard to improve the bottom line, we decided on a new strategy. This new strategy is a wholesale reduction of variable and some fixed expenses.
When you don't make one, someone makes one for you. If you make one too early, you may regret it. It's the lifeline, the conduit, the facilitator and the support system making making things work: decisions. We are making decisions constantly in business. But are our decisions the right ones?
While this is not meant to second guess (or cause you to, slowing your business), this idea was put here to make you understand that decisions are based on options. Too often we hear expressions… Continue

No matter how tightly or loosely your association with the automotive industry, this is a month of reckoning for so many reasons. But most are still in 'wait and see mode'. That just flat out can't be comfortable and it's not right, so why is it done? If you'd had the proverbial crystal ball, what would you have done months ago (if not years)?
It is interesting to hear about some level of negative consumer sentiment or backlash about the Toyota 0% advertising. When was the last time… Continue
Mix your favorite drink or prepare your favorite meal and just before you are able to enjoy it, stop. Or miss one of the critical ingredients in that favorite food. Better yet, invite someone over for a lavish meal and forget to make anything. When you miss part of the process, the results are not what you want, period.
Think about this equation for a little while:
Success = Thought x Action + Time
Thought: Positive attitude governs everything you do;… Continue

It is time to remember once again who holds the cards at dealerships. If you have forgotten, go to a retailer of choice at lunch or after work today and watch carefully how your interaction and transaction develops with the salesperson. This is not to say that consumers are in the same state of mind going out to buy a new flat-screen TV as they are for a vehicle purchase. By the same token, shouldn't one of the larger investments people ever make be met by a solid professional who knows how to… Continue
