Some dealership personnel tend to do things that really boil down to just CYA stuff. A customer comes into the service drive and is made to wait while their vehicle is inspected for scratches, dents or dings, which can take a few minutes --- time a customer doesn’t have.
The most valuable currency on the planet is time. Everyone has too much to do with too little time.…Continue

One of the advantages of Pre-Paid Maintenance Programs (PPM) is that they span the generational gaps. Regardless of which generation consumers happen to be in, none of them like surprise repairs, or other expenses. That’s why dealers focus on payments – and not price – when selling cars.
Consumers want fixed expenses. When it comes to millennials, they tend to…Continue

Many consumers have the perception that servicing at a dealership is more expensive than at independent service providers. Whether this applies to your service department or not, independents acquire customers through consistently advertising competitive prices. Unfortunately, this seems to be working well for them as they’re capturing more and more of your…Continue

Many dealers and managers outside of the service department don’t realize how incredibly busy a service advisor (SA) is throughout their day. Most dealers I know spend around $30, or more, per lead to drive more sales customers into the store. In many cases these leads contain little information that is actually useful to help close the customer. And, not all the information is accurate – perhaps the email is good but the phone number is not. It’s no surprise that closing ratios hover nationally at around 8-12% for…Continue
In most dealerships, the sales department is typically seen as the favorite child, despite the fact that it’s typically the service department that does all the heavy lifting and keeps the house in order. Because of that, sales is usually where new technologies, website widgets, leads and other digital expenditures are introduced. Just take a look at most dealership websites…Continue
Life in the retail automotive industry is taxing. Managers and employees work long hours and, in many cases, are with their co-workers more than they are with their families. Miscommunications, tension or arguments can detract from the efficiency of the dealership, and thus decrease overall profitability.
Technicians and service advisors work very closely…Continue

If advisors could read service customers minds, time would be saved, customers’ needs more accurately addressed, and service sales, CSI and retention would all improve.
Advisors who read minds know that every customer pulling into the drive has on his or her mind that day:
Ability to address these questions in…Continue

It’s not a new idea to have one of your salespeople working the service drive. Opportunities and circumstances exist where it may be beneficial for the customer to trade-in their car that needs to be repaired. Having someone who can not only identify those opportunities but who also knows how to present it to the customer properly is rare.
That being said, have…Continue
