Yesterday was one of those days that give you a lift. I went in to work set up with 3 appointment for the day. None of those were able to make it in. (Go figure) But I made it in with a positive attitude first thing in the morning and it all worked out. I received two calls that became new appointments who showed and left happy in new vehicles. Luck? Attitude! I new I was going to have a good day it just didn't come from where I thought it would. A… Continue

The independents do it better?
What? Who are these people making false claims to our customers. This is a rallying cry to everyone in our industry. Let’s get off our asses and show the independent guys what we are made of. The new car dealership does it far better than any independent shop can ever claim. Let’s start by comparing the shops…

3-21-09...Apex, NC... Within the e-pages of this fine, fine institution we lovingly call ADM, I am known as the CRAPmeister. I am the faciltator in the growing heap we call C.R.A.P. Fifteen of the finest of ADM have stepped in, er, stepped up to join CRAP.
Here is an example of the CRAP we want.
I was recently in a store in trouble. When you sell just three new in a month and you are highly capable of selling 15-25, that's CRAP.
But training has lost focus in… Continue

Automotive retailers have been contacting me lately to ask how they can use Twitter to keep in front of their existing customers as well as to reach new customers. There are a number of emails claiming that business owners can build 10,000+ member "opt-in" email lists in just days using Twitter.
I thought it was time to make some initial comments as I continue to test how to leverage Twitter for clients. There are no EASY ways to generate an opt-in email list of 10,000+ consumers but… Continue

I am interested in knowing what dealers primarily look for when searching for a good lead provider for both new and used cars.
I want to know what dealers are looking for so I can create some new programs that bundle both new and used cars and deliver the type of quality and quantity dealers want at an aggressive price. We currently post used cars on all our sites and only charge for email inquiries you receive, calls and click throughs are free of charge. We… Continue

3-19-09 Apex, NC... Saint Joseph's feast day is 3-19-09. He of course was a carpenter, and the husband of Mary... Yes, he was the one with the famous KID... Anyway, he is the Patron Saint of Workers. The Vatican declared Joseph the Patron Saint of (those needing) work as well. I am still praying to him...
The Prez is going on Leno, has his Final Four predictions off his plate, and will be starring in the new FOX sitcom, "They Voted for Me!" It is a comedy... He also will be nominated… Continue

Automotive advertising agencies are often lead by independent experts in the auto industry that rarely take direction from “the competition.”
AdAgencyOnline.Net is an online automotive advertising resource / networking community that has crossed that bridge by adopting the philosophy of “A rising tide floats all boats.” Philip Zelinger, the President of Ad Agency Online, L.L.C. and host of the blog talk radio station featured on AdAgencyOnline.Net… Continue

3-17-09 Apex, Ireland... Good ole' Saint Patrick, he was a great salesman. After getting his can kicked as a youth by Irish seamen, he converted an entire country to listen to his message of Peace and Hope. Born in Britain, and probably Scotland, he was first a priest and then a bishop, he lived until 461 A.D.
He was so good a salesperson, and left such a huge customer base, that his referrals from 460 A.D. drink to his memory centuries later.
Wished he sold cars... The… Continue

I was reading a blog post the other day about some new business trends. It got me thinking about the good-ole-days. The days when customers were loyal. The days when most of us lived and died by certain brands. The days when it was OK to be open, honest, helpful, and profitable, all at the same time. These were the days when most of our bosses were making enough money to warrant pay raises on a regular basis. I wondered what happened? What changed? Why does it feel like old-fashioned values and… Continue

Blog #1 from the desk of Megan E. Bucher…
Thanks for welcoming me to this online community of car biz knowledge and wisdom! I've desparatlely needed a mentor in this business for a long time, so I'm excited to get some feedback and share what I've learned.
I’m a process oriented person to the extreme. So, when I got the chance to leave the showroom floor in sales to run the BDC in our Auto Group 5 years ago, I jumped at the opportunity. It had fallen short in its first few… Continue

3-16-09 Apex, NC. I feel it. I really feel it. We have rounded the corner of Recession Blvd. and Wallet Ave. No, we are not home free. But the times they are a changing. To everything, turn, turn, turn...
I see the light, maybe it is six- nine months out but we are getting to the light.
It is extremely exciting. People are getting ready to spend again. Consumer confidence is tied directly to the Dow Jones. And the Dow had a solid week. I think people will never go back to… Continue

My home is the Windsor/Detroit region and I have to say that I'm at a point where I am avoiding
the news. I grew up in a place where my own family worked the line. When I had to sell chocolate bars for school there was no other place to be then at the Chrysler Mini-Van plant during breaktime. My cousins and I would have all our boxes sold in under ten minutes flat. There was a generosity of spirit as the men (and women!) came out of the factory. I remember one guy… Continue

Apex, NC 3-15-09... I have to tell you I was impressed last night. Many restaurants and appliance stores are suffering. These two examples are not. We had a great dinner at Carrabas last night. The key is value. You get great food, and a lot of it. They now offer small $2 desserts... virtually every diner had one on the table. Love the strategy.
HH Gregg was next last night. Great store and again great value; wide aisles and major appliances. They do not have a little of everything… Continue

Search high and low through statistics about U.S. auto sales and you'll find practically nothing to brag about these days. But one silver lining does emerge: sales of "certified pre-owned" vehicles.
Even through the industry's darkest days, sales of certified pre-owned units for most automakers selling in the… Continue
