Sorry for the the sensationalist title but the fact of the matter is dealerships are getting fleeced on their websites. We took a realistic look at what dealerships spend over a five year period on their websites. So many dealerships are afraid to take control of their own website. It really is quite easy when you have the website built using an open source content management system. You can still display inventory easily, update specials and so much more. The video below explains a little more… Continue

I've been priveledged in my life to co-exist with some extrordinarly leaders. In the suburb of Cleveland where I grew up, I was fortunate enough to spend time with an Abbot in my parish who upheld the word vividly.
He drilled, “Be a Leader” into my head, and I have always strived to hold true to that phrase.
I really hope the current circumstances we are in economically allow us to see how great we can all work as a team. Don’t get me wrong, competition is necessary. However,… Continue

Not long ago I was in Las Vegas for an International Industry Convention, and I asked a question, which was apparently, a pretty good question, but not too common. The person running the booth asked if he could video tape the question and answer session for their company's website? At first, I was taken aback, but then thought, what the heck, sure I told him.
I then repeated the question for the camera,… Continue

My eyes were opened even with a horrible Migraine today at the Managers meeting. "UNDER EVALUATION" Is what I heard and still, I am in shock.
I have a crew of 2. Not only do we manage the leads from our 4 sites, we also take service appointments for 3 stores which takes most of Monday due to the weekend, we make sure all the the pre-owned vehicles have stickers made, pricing done and appointments set for either certification or used vehicle checks as well as photos taken for the… Continue

4-5-09 Apex, NC... Just kidding! But things have changed so much since I sported that neat looking gadget on my belt back in 1999. I had the coolest pager on the planet, well the dealership. I could not wait for it to buzz my belt. I would pull over and run to a pay phone, or wait until I could get to a free one to call the number back; "You paged me?"
I loved it... Then I got this HUGE cell phone for my belt. It was so big that I almost had to put it on a two wheel cart to carry the… Continue

You know what? I can't blame you! Now days it so easy to just think about yourself and your needs when a customer comes through the door toward you. Things are so slow on the showroom floor, you might have to role play with a set of 22" chromes (but they might not talk back) or do a walk around with the receptionist! No matter what, you can't stop focusing on what is truly most important.
The customer, how you treat them, what they expect, what they're prepared for and everything to… Continue

I am in an average of 20 Dealerships per week. The one thing that I always find amazing is the difference in approaches each dealership has to the current business climate. The most successful Dealers always find ways to survive and even flourish when things get slow.
The best dealerships are not put off by a slow economy or an automobile business that is currently going thru a slow period. They realize that they must increase their intensity levels and work harder and smarter. They… Continue

Ralph, We need to create demand now and the supply problem will vanish
. This is automobile industry is needing immediate stimulus but not the factory bail out type of stimulus. There is a very quick and positive solution to our problem that will impact on every part of the economy, not just the retail car industry.
We need to provide the taxpayer's money to the taxpayer to buy vehicles, not the factories
. We need to create demand now and the supply problem will vanish. We… Continue

Hello all, I have been getting a lot of questions lately about links, everyone wants them and there seems to be some fundamental misunderstandings at times about what an ideal link is, and how links effect search engine rankings. I blogged about it, and then made a video to share out on a few sites. I didn't want to post the same article all over the web so I went with video instead. If you choose you can read the article on… Continue
