Oh Man, what is going on?

I am still laughing about an incident. I just can't believe it - not sure if I should laugh or go hide in a corner. What do you think about this one? So I go into a dealership last week and I am waiting on my appointment and just walk around and look at the floor. So a sales person comes over to me, probably wondering if I am a customer. I said " Oh wow, I had no idea this car was this cool! Do you mind telling me a bit more about it" ...Hold your breath please.. He says " Do you want to speak… Continue

A,B,C or D? No its none of the above

I wanted to share my experience from last week. It has been a rising question to me over the last few weeks. A dealer calls me up and asks me about Lead providing companies. Should I continue with A, B, C or D? Yes, almost like a multiple choice question, only difference is the answer is NONE OF THE ABOVE. Now, many of you might disagree and that is ok. Many lead providers ( Not all )raises question and hesitation for dealers. Why? The lead volume has decreased by much and the lead quality can… Continue

Don't Just Lead the Horse to Water, Make 'em Thirsty!

Making 'Em Thirsty

Auto sales, any sales really, is a people business.  It is about identifying a customer's wants and needs and tailoring your product to them.  Too many people who have “Sales and Leasing Consultant” on their business cards are nothing more than paper hat wearing, order taking monkeys with notes in their mouths.  Customer's come to dealerships and give the sales representative a list (an order) of what they…

Experience CRM & Social Media Success Stories at the Automotive Summit Series

I founded Thought Leadership Summits (TLS) seven years ago with the goal of developing exclusive events that enable executives to have high-quality interactions with fellow thought leaders. Having worked in the automotive industry, I knew there was a need for a Summit addressing relationships between OEMs, Dealers, Captive Finance providers, and their shared customers.

With that in mind, TLS launched the Automotive…

Last week, while at a dealer client, and while reviewing the mystery shop I had just done for them, I flashed on a story told to me last year by one of my teammates.  First know that this was a pretty typical mystery shop – the shopper received 2 emails and 1 phone call before the store stopped contact attempts.  Now the story:

Bob was 13 years old, in middle school for the first time, and faced with having to ask a girl to an upcoming school dance.  Like a lot of 13 year old boys…

Hosted Video Content on Google Video Will No Longer be Available

Later this month, hosted video content on Google Video will no longer be available for playback. Google Video stopped taking uploads in May 2009 and now we’re removing the remaining hosted content. We've always maintained that the strength of Google Video is its ability to let people search videos from across the web, regardless of where those videos are hosted. And this move will enable us to focus on developing these technologies further to the benefit of searchers…

The Digital Divide – it’s not what you think it is

“Communication with you customers has never been easier…and yet your customers have never been further away.”

For some time now I have been thinking and battling it out with several blog opponents on conversion and why it is so important. It really comes down to breaking through the Digital Divide between you and the customer.

To do that you need to PERSONALLY INTERACT WITH THEM and to do that you need contact information… PERIOD.

Google Places To Retire Yellow Tags

Here is an announcement that I received today from Google:

At Google, we’re always working to innovate and improve ways for small businesses to get online and reach more customers. At times, though, we have to decide where to focus our efforts and which technologies we expect will yield the most benefit to users and businesses like you in the long run.

In that spirit, we are retiring Google Tags for all users on April 29, 2011. No action is required…

Learning Auto Sales, Conquering a New Land or Using Chopsticks All Take the Same Mentality

Did you know that over 80% of auto sales representatives leave the business within the first year?  Not just leave the dealership, leave the business!  Then, a large portion of the remaining twenty percent change dealerships.  How can we lose more than three quarters of our new-hires within the first year?  “They couldn’t handle it.”  You may say.  “Not tough enough.”  “Not cut out for it.”  Or as I have said before, “They’re either lazy or they’re stupid.”  There are elements of…

Flushing Your Olympic Marketing Down the Drain of Bad Processes

The OEMs and the vendor/consultant marketplace are more and more teaching dealers all about modern marketing, and I get why:  Generating good traffic these days requires lots more than a newspaper, radio, or TV ad.  We’re all being shopped on the Internet by customers, and we need to be there, and be there strong,…
