Country of Origin

How important is country of origin to you? Is it the most important factor where a car was born or is it more country of design and country of manufature that people look for? I am just trying to get an understanding of buyer behaviour and how people measure importance.

Dealership Consultant, or 3rd Party Vendor Sales Rep in Disguise?

There are thousands of dealership consultants out there...from process consultants, to internet lead management consultants, to financial statement consultants, to social media consultants, and so on.  In my experience, I would say that a minority are truly awesome, many are weak, and most fall somewhere in between.

That said, I think a major concern for a dealer is a consultant who receives compensation of some type from dealership service providers (DSP) or vendors in the…

Video impact on car sales

A company's competitive advantage has always been one of the most important factors in a strategic management process. How in the automotive industry (which i have just entered, having left University recently) can they sustain a competitive advantage without the use of video? It doesn't make sense a video surely for someone who wants to buy a product is much more important than any picture is worth and if people are viewing a product such as a car in the comfort of their own home or office…

How To Be (And Make Others) Successful Selling Cars

(originally published 6/3/2011 on Dealer magazine)

The other day, I started thinking about all the friends I’ve made that I met because they bought a car from me. I’m not talking about acquaintance-type friends, I’m talking about people that are involved in my life, and have been for a long…

May Sales Drop – A Blip or a Trend?

May Sales Drop – A Blip or a Trend?

Just when we were beginning to feel good about the auto industry following eight months of sales growing by percentages in the double digits, sales plunged in May, down 4% from May of last year.

The question is whether the drop will be a trend the rest of the year or a “minor” disruption for a couple of months. The major challenge is lack of inventory resulting from the earthquake in Japan earlier this year. The lack of inventory has led to…

Quick Fixes Don't Stick

I was sitting up the other night flipping the channels and just was amazed at the amount of infomercials I have seen on how we can change quickly or how we can revolutionize our life with a certain product, I just laugh and then it made me mad.

Now I have been one of those people who are fascinated by these claims, but I have also been in the coaching and training field for over 20 years and been in a position of managing others for close to 30. (No my photo is…

Coffee’s for Closers…Negotiation AINT the close

I love reading Jim Ziegler’s articles there is a lot of hard core truth in what he writes, most of all you can bet he is passionate and believes and lives every word. While reading this latest article “Coffee’s for Closers” it floored me that we still see this connection between the “PRICE” and the "Close". What’s even more ironic is that is that what actually “CLOSES” a car sale is as old school as it…

There was some exciting news shared with me, and I think it is going to have a big impact on our industry in the near future.

Briefly let me explain:  I have been using this system to take care of my automobile clients since October of 2007; and I think it is the perfect tool for a salesperson in the automotive industry to keep track of their clients, send cards to congratulate them on their new purchase (with a photo or video…
