These days many people in the car business seem to believe buying a car should be more like a visit to www.amazon.com and less like a visit
to your dealership.
We’re seeing a rapid proliferation of tools and services designed to wage a triangular war between dealers, customers and other dealers; services and software designed to “help” you offer the lowest prices, carry the right inventory, list your inventory in all the right… Continue

I spend my day talking with dealers across the country about reputation management. One of the dealers that I'd been speaking with made a terrible decision over the weekend and I wanted to share with everybody here.
Pasted below are the first google reviews (this is a fairly big dealership in a busy metropolitan area), do you see where this dealerships is making a huge mistake?
If you said the mistake was the fraudulent authors of… Continue

They say there’s nothing new under the sun, and I’m beginning to believe it.
I went looking online for a quick history of the birth of the automobile industry, and found it.
What was surprising was this: If you deleted or changed a few of the names, places and time references, it read just like a discussion of today’s challenge: how to power the automobile of the… Continue

What is your first sign of a dealer in trouble, a dealer that just doesn't get it, and a dealer that can only sell successfully for a limited period of time, because they are selling in SPITE of themselves. Yes, folks, the car market is back and dealers are once again selling cars in spite of themselves. And that has brought back the old fears and yes, let's call the baby ugly, the old stupidities that we had all hoped went away in 2008. Dealers are still just flat out scared of the Internet,… Continue

The last couple days have been a bit of a roller coaster for Detroit. The former Big Three gave Detroit something to smile about by leading U.S. May new car sales; the Mercury brand comes to a necessary, but sad end; and Detroit Tiger Armando Galarraga has a record throwing game taken from him purely because of human error. Unfortunately, without instant replay, the call stands.
Could the Mercury brand been saved? Should Ford have created something very different and unique… Continue

I was part of a short but rather bombastic discussion here about keywords and their use in SEO. I likened them to the appendix, in that they showed up in the Internet body at some point in the past but nobody is clear at this time exactly what they do.
I believe you can still use them to raise your ranking. If your competitors don't do much SEO at all--and that's the majority of the web, by the way--then of COURSE you'll look smart if you… Continue

SmartDrive Systems announced recently that it has topped 28-million risky driving events captured by its onboard SmartRecorder, currently in use by many professional fleets and corporations.
Risky driving includes many basic driving errors - everything from failure to yield, california stops and unsafe lane changes to following too closely. It also takes into account distracted or inattentive driving such as driving while talking on a cell, texting, smoking or… Continue

Direct mail marketing, email marketing, referral programs. Those are just a few of the many methods local car dealerships across the country have used to attract new customers and even retain previous buyers. In short, there's no right answer to effective automotive advertising. Every market is different; every demographic has a different eye and way of being enticed. But the tried and true method… Continue

This is a very common concern amongst General Sales Managers. Dealerships give out commissions but you still need to do more each month for your employees. But how to run an effective contest is something GSMs may need help with. There are a few rules I use as a guide when running contests.
1. Make sure everyone feels he has a shot at winning.
