The Media's Negative Effect on the Car Industry

I was thumbing through my Sunday morning Chicago Tribune (yes, I still get the paper - don't know why as I read it online before ever cracking open the usually-soggy paper) and came across an article about the uptick in automotive sales. It mentioned that a rebound was occurring. I found the article refreshing. No, not because I was enlightened with new information, but that there was ANY positive news about car sales. Media rarely reports any positive messages regarding our industry. We've… Continue

GM/Ebay Will Stress Dealer Network

While I support the creative think of GM and the desire to think out of the box there are many problems with this idea of selling automobiles through Ebay. Selling vehicles on ebay will only validate the need for more sales training by auto dealers not less.

1) GM has used Ebay for a year with Certifified so why pilot this new program in California as GM and dealers would already know the results of this program and all the problems related to… Continue

What Automotive Company in Seattle Supports Women in Leadership?

Cobalt Group employs over 900 people and 40% of the workforce are women, many who hold high ranking positions of leadership. 135 women employees who contribute to the success of Cobalt in a wide variety of roles attended their first annual Women's Summit & Luncheon and a few guys were there, too, including CEO John Holt who co-founded the Cobalt Group in 1995. I was so honored to be invited by Julia Pizzi who is the Vice President Human Resources… Continue

My Favorite Dealer Client

Do you consider yourself a progressive dealer? Is it something innate, or learned? I consider myself a pretty successful guy…or at least strive to be one, but I know people who still sit around watching COPS all day playing the lottery and eating Long John Silvers. With major companies crumbling because of bureaucracy, stubbornness, fat-dumb-and-happy-syndrome…or all of the above , wouldn’t you assume that dealers more than ever would focus on bettering their processes to push themselves out in… Continue

I Was Wrong! But Don't Tell My Wife I Admitted It!

I predicted that Chapter 11 bankruptcy for Chrysler and GM would cause chaos and linger for years. Well, I was right about the chaos part. Little did I know what can happen when the government is the driving force behind a Section 363 sale in a Chapter 11, and how much influence the provider of Debtor in Possession financing has - especially when they also happen to be the government.

I do, however, remain dead set against the arbitrary termination of Dealers. Let’s hope there is a… Continue

Increasing Your Online Qualified Leads

“Guaranteed to drive thousands of visitors to your site a month!”

“First place Google placement – guaranteed!”

I see advertisements like this every day. And I hate to be a killjoy, but this sort of program is NOT going to help you bring in qualified leads for your team. If you want sheer volume of site visitors, great. If you want traffic that will convert to customers, then this isn’t for you.

I know the law of large numbers says that the more people you… Continue
