DETROIT (Reuters) -- The deteriorating European markets have led auto industry executives to worry about possible contagion spreading across the Atlantic, but June new-car sales in the United States are expected to hit a five-year peak for that…Continue

18% of US consumers - including 23% under 35 - have bought a brand because their friends like or follow the brand on a social network, per findings from an …Continue
Question #1: What if we had no departments in the dealership? What if we had only areas of responsibility but all managers were paid on total store profits? Do you think we would have greater communication and cooperation between what are now separate profit centers?…Continue
They say “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.” Well, at Digital Dealer we’ve received so much flattery from imitators, we can’t help but think – we must be onto something!
Digital Dealer events are often imitated; but never close to duplicated. Just one Digital Dealer Conference has more dealers and managers attend than all the copy-cat wanna-be events combined. Digital Dealer has the formula to attract dealership attendees like no other event has or…Continue

One of the most important parts of any automotive marketing strategy is social media. No matter what the venue every company needs to have an online presence. It's pretty easy to open an account on a website like Twitter, but it's a lot more difficult to learn all the ins and outs that make a business…Continue

That question often depends on who you ask. Salespeople will talk about the dealer up the street or across town who is absolutely giving the cars away. F&I will talk about lenders who seem to favor other dealers and cost them deals. Managers will discuss factory incentives, advertising, and the like. But is that what we're really up against?
After 33 years in the business and over 15,000 salespeople and managers trained, I think there's more to competition than we…

I created a video that gives a brief overview of the Google Cars program, officially called the Google Commercial Unit For Cars (CUFC). A few more details on the program are now available but dealers still have a number of questions left unanswered.
Take a minute to watch the video and see my comments at the bottom of this page.…Continue

Before I decide to make a purchase on any big ticket item, I search the company’s name in Google and see the rating the business received. I also read a couple of the customer reviews. I, like most shoppers, am turned off by bad reviews. Shoppers are using the Web now, more than ever to research and review companies.
Which rating service should dealerships pay most attention to? Google and here’s why:
I googled a local dealership here in Orlando, and the first…Continue
It's hard to get people excited about Google+ because of the seeming lack of engagement there, and adoption for car dealers is still very low even among those who have gotten into social media marketing. Even though Google+ doesn't have nearly the level of interaction that there is on Facebook it…Continue

This isn't going to be a long rant because I do most of my ranting in the video below, but it all definitely needs to be said. Taking an image that someone else took from one of the various picture-sharing sites on the internet and then slapping your watermark on it is a very poor practice. It's dishonest. It's a potential hit to your reputation. It's a little creepy.
One thing I do not mention in the video is that it reduces the chances that someone else will share the image from…Continue
As we all know, Google made a HUGE shift on May 30th, when they moved all Google Places pages to Google+ Local. We are 1 month since the announcement and shift, and I wanted to share some of my experiences and observations so far.
Google is very…Continue
One of the founding tenets of Dealers United is that our Member-Dealers will ALWAYS be GUARANTEED the LOWEST price, and BEST terms and conditions for every deal. We stand by that; and we demand this be written into every vendor agreement.
Yesterday, one of our members discovered a lower price than their current deal with a signed vendor. The price was only $38 below the Dealers United Members’ Only Price and it was for a long-term contract, but it is important to us to…

Mobile applications are in massive use today, and projected to overtake desktops as a preferred method of connecting to the internet in the very near future. That’s according to multiple sources, including DudaMobile’s new infographic illustrating the Top Five Industries to Go Mobile on Mashable. The same infographic shows the automotive industry to be in the top five but in last place, with…Continue

So, you don't get social huh? You're not seeing the return the guru promised in his blog post? Don't worry, you're not alone. One of the biggest reasons for social failure is that most businesses use it as a bolt on. That is, they just attach it to whatever it is that they are doing and pray that's enough. I'm here to tell you that it's not. Even if the…Continue
