2-18-09 Apex, NC... My Grandfather worked for General Motors from 1929 until 1965. The infant son of Russian/Polish immigrants, the migration to Detroit was certainly not easy. With only a grade school education at best, he was amazingly articulate. He had to go to work at age 13. One thing he was for sure... he was one of the first generation of hard working middle class in America. During the Depression when unemployment was around 35%, he drove to Flint from Detroit to keep his job. Even… Continue

Since my last exercise I have had so much response regarding increasing ELR. Immediately questions arise about customer satisfaction and decrease in production. I suggest that we can have it all. We just need to train our service advisors how to sell effectively. I have made a career of walking the parking lot touching the car and keeping my WIP to a minimum. I also have traveled and worked with hundreds of service advisors. We always look for ways to… Continue

I've been reviewing some data across the internet relative to which sites consumers use most in their research efforts for new or used vehicles. The debate among the vendors, journalists, and experts have been rather interesting as is to be expected each vendor (going unamed here) makes claim to the highest usage and visitors on their site. While the industry watch companies have been fairly detailed they too have been inconsistent. They do produce some interesting data - for example Nielsen… Continue

2-17-09 Apex, NC... With the above words stated loudly and firmly at 3:23 EST, the President signed the Stimulus into law. Now, "it's done"...could be like it's cooked! Over time we will see if it is a turkey or not. Now in all fairness, time will tell. I am a sales trainer and recruiter. I am a vendor. I am a small business owner. So far no one has told me I am a beneficiary of anything in this bill. Not too many of us in the car business or in any business really can use the extra $600 a… Continue

Grant Cardone continues his fight for auto dealers on the top 15 national radio channels tomorrow morning starting at 7am EST. Grant originally authored an alternative to the proposed bailout asking Washington to provide a stimulus rather than a bailout that included tax credits to Dealers, Lenders and Consumers.

I was delivering a set of V2 display ramps a couple of weeks ago, and on my way to Atlanta from Commerce Township, Michigan, I noticed on my 26 hour round trip many car dealers out of business. I know, not shocking. What confounded me was all the ones I saw still had all the lights in the building and across the very large EMPTY PARKING LOTS. Who is paying for that light bill, and why?
That started me thinking about the dealership that are not yet out of business with all their… Continue

It doesn't matter who you are, what you sell or where you sell. Further, it doesn't matter if you're actively selling or making sales happen away from the front lines. There are a number of things that make business tick:
1. Passion about what you're doing and/or representing
2. Solid fundamentals; especially process
3. Understanding and belief in your business' mission and/or goals
Some still count on their manufacturer's brand or their 'book of business' to… Continue
