Nearly 70 percent of the sales at Tom Vann’s Hillsdale, Mich., dealership come through the Internet. Over the past 11 years, about 8,000 vehicles have been sold online -- where, unlike the lot where this photo was taken, it never snows.
Tom - Thank you for participating and providing valuable insights... MORE IMPORTANTLY; I would like to point out to other ADM members to take note of ANYTHING that Tom Vann recommends or suggests... With as many so called "experts" and "gurus" who have been in the car business and digital marketing for less that a couple of NFL seasons, it is important to identify the "Real Deal" when it shows up, because they do not usually tout their own qualifications, so I will take the liberty of doing so... Tom Vann is one of the original Digital Marketing Dealer Pioneers who helped create the space that so many of us now earn a living in... Back in the mid to late 90's Tom Van was on the dealer advisory board that served AutoByTel and he was one of the principals in the first Internet Sales Training company of its kind for the car business, called iNet, along with Danny Alkassmi and Doug Waikem. Tom and his brother Fred have built up an automotive dealer group from virtually nothing, except the tips Tom earned managing Chart House Restaurants in California. Their Team Hillsdale Dodge in Hillsdale, MI was on the front page of the Wall Street Journal back in 1998 for growing their business using the Internet... I personally learned more in one day with Tom and Fred Vann at their dealership in Hillsdale, MI than most people learn about lead management processes in a year... And, that was in 1999! Tom Vann has accomplished so much more in the real world of selling cars with digital marketing than 90% of the people I see getting up on stage to speak to dealers at various conferences, that if he were there I would be embarrassed. To this day, I am still working on sorting technology out in a way to implement the lead routing principles that Tom Vann taught me in 1999... For those that know me, they also know that there are very few people who I would defer to, but Tom Vann is one of those very few.
If you want to REALLY see the metal moving down the road from a dealer who truly "gets it" and embraces digital marketing with a strong dose of customer service, then go visit one of Tom Vann's dealerships. He has been building his dealership business using primarily digital marketing and Internet sales processes longer than many ADM members, and most of the Internet Sales Managers out there have been in the car business!

I am in my home office all week working on several Digital Marketing proposals after one of those too-much-travel weeks facilitating Digital Advertising Dealer Summits that started in Phoenix, then Dallas, followed by Houston on Thursday and finishing with a Summit Meeting in San Antonio, TX. I am in my home office preparing for next week's gun fight and trying to get caught up on expense reports.
On behalf of both myself, and the rest of the 1,450+ member ADM family, welcome to our online community and file sharing repository... We are very happy to see you have joined our community of automotive marketing and sales professionals.

Amazing support from an amazing industry... Makes the aggravation of flying around the country with a guy sitting next to me who keeps sticking his elbow into my ribs, somehow worth it!
One of the greatest features that ADM provides is that you have full access to your very own blog web site within your personal profile section (here) of the ADM community. So feel free to get into the swing of things and use this website and the resources you get at no extra cost (because the ads here pay for them), as a means of sharing information, files, updates, proposals, photos, videos, etc.with your associates, customers, clients and friends!
To see how effectively any dealer's website is getting indexed by Google, just go to Google.com and do a search that starts with "site:" as in "site:teamhillsdale.com" and Google will pull up every page as indexed by their robots... In the upper right hand corner you will see the summary of the pages indexed, which is what I copied and pasted into my message to you below. Although the number of pages indexed is not the be all end all of how a site performs, it is one of those things that should be checked and an optimization plan considered.
Very cool site... Improvements could be made as follows:
1, Forms accept tool bar form-fill application, like Google tool br to make it easier for customers to submit a lead.
2. Allow your videos to be syndicated, let customers put them on their MySpace pages and other blogs so friends can click on them and bring referral traffic to your site. This is typical of website providers who just don't get it... Including many of the biggies.
3. Inventory, Inventory, Inventory... I know you wrote it is bing worked on, but it is the most important part of a dealer's site.
4. The indexing of your TeamHillsdale.com by search engines is in the dumpster! Here's how many pages are indexed by Google for your site: Results 1 - 10 of about 27 from teamhillsdale.com

I am the first to tell dealers that quantity of pages indexed is not asimportant as relevnt conten, but having only 27 pages indexed on your site is just plain inexcusable in this day of SEO being intrinsic to site design.
I'll tget you more in the future, but fr right now the search engine indexing is the most critical thing to fix.
Welcome to ADM!!! What a great feeling it gave me to see you joined my little experiment that has turned into quite the upstart professional community. I still practice a lot of what i learned from you during my brief visit almost 10 years ago. Do you realize how far ahead of the curve you were in 1998?
