It's hard to say right off. If they've put more than 1 phone number in that's definitely a hot lead. If they've added comments then I see that as being more serious as well. And if they lead is on a specific stock number or VIN, as opposed to a generic nissan altima, etc. I pay lots of attention to comments, and try to determine what vehicle they'll be interested in. Even if it's specific, a lot of times they're not interested in that particular vehicle (maybe different trim level, color, model). On used cars i've been very effective at not quoting prices, but simply attempting to set up appointments. We're going to change that and start quoting KBB retail to show the savings (which is already on our website) but most used car shoppers who send in a lead are either looking for financing or checking availability. They are always hot leads and I make extra efforts to get them on the phone, because I've noticed used car shoppers in this area anyways don't respond to email as well as new car shoppers.

I'm trying to think off the top of my head here so I'm sure I've left out some things.

I would say the #1 thing has been owner/manager buy-in to the internet dept. That was the first hurdle I had to jump, and I could NOT have had any level of success without it.

#2 would be perfecting the lead management process, if I had to choose one thing. It's been a big learning process over 3 years to learn what works in email and how to get the customer in the door.

Now it's down to training and passing the knowledge down to the ISRs.

So how does Trilogy fit into what dealers are doing online?
