Thanks for the insight. I have a few microsites all of which are connected to the stores main pages. I just recently started a new site and shortly there after opened Facebook and Twitter pages as well. No traffic at all to the Twitter page but we are starting to gain a little on facebook. I saw that you mentioned that you submit main pages and sub pages to social bookmarking websites (a whole bunch of them) but I am unsure as to what you mean by that or how to go about it.

Excellent point Ralph, I'm glad you brought that up. This is why Business.com, Yahoo Directory backlinks are so powerful. They are edited by humans like us, and they will never allow a spam site to get listed. Google knows this, and it will give your site authority in their eyes.

Mike - Thanks for livening things up a bit and revealing yourself as a practitioner who knows what he is doing! One thing you mention is paying the fees for some of the better directories and listing services. I have also found that any of the free directories and listing services have become almost worthless because of their abuse by spammers... The fee based directories are not used by the spammers, so it stands to reason that the value of their directory listings will be ranked higher by both end users and the search engines.

It seems this thread is a bit stale, and things change so often (especially for Google) I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents.
I currently consult for 3 dealerships in Florida, and 2 of them are in the hottest markets in the country. This makes it a great challenge for me.

The first thing I do for my dealers is to launch a microsite and a blog (connected). Content is still king, so I have to stuff them. You can see a sample here, and how we connect them together (be sure to look at the blog). If you think like a spider you will get it, including recent blog posts and new vehicle listings on the right (we do this for faster indexing).

When I have them full I start link building, usually from one of my many sites.

Then, I wait until the site is crawled and indexed (fully) before I add more backlinks (too many too fast will hurt you).

Then I submit main pages and sub pages to social bookmarking websites (a whole bunch of them).

I don't waste my time with low quality directories the videos above submit to, I have some juicy ones. I also spend the money for premium listings including Business.com and the Yahoo Directory (in time - not all at once).

Then we start writing and publishing 1,000 word articles. This is one of the greatest methods..our articles end up on many RSS feeds.

During this entire process, I seek out 3 way link exchanges. Another words, I'll give them a link from site a, if they link to my site b. Blatant link exchanges don't work very well for Google (they do work for Bing & Yahoo).

Then...when I feel the site has authority I start delicately linking the microsite and blog to the dealers main page. After about 2 weeks I see a huge difference in the serps.

Now as I continue to build backlinks, I include the dealer's website as well.

I try not to deep link the dealer website for one simple reason. Every few years dealers switch companies, which means their url's will change on their deep pages. I don't want to create 404's when they switch (search engines hate that). I good vendor will create 301 redirects to avoid this problem, but I doubt any of them would do this.

This method works guys and girls. I highly recommend you spend 30 minutes a day link building...and don't stop when you're on top...keep going.

We have been working on developing Microsites that feature Ebay inventory listings.

How they work -

We pull in your ebay inventory listings to create individual pages for each car -
We place relevant links to your main dealership website and back to your ebay listings -
Can be store branded or blind branded -
If you have more than one store in the same market using ebay motors we can co mingle listings -
If you wish to tap nearby DMA we can build a site to reach those markets -
Additional content to bring in research stage shoppers -

I'm in on the Skype group but two quick comments. It is worth paying for the upgraded service for the unlimited calls and you can expect some "hiccups" sometimes with your other software. Other than that - great phone and text chat tool and - as pointed out - DIRECTORY!.

I think we should use this technology with-in the ADM network, to do some set up Conference type calls with members for discussions! While we are all at work infront of our PC's we can have some interactive voice conversations about the latest and greatest.
