This is a Reddit style AMA! I am the Director of Dealer Reputation Strategy for the company that owns the largest repository of reviews in the Automotive vertical and has been helping dealers WIN business away from their competitors for over a decade, Ask Me Anything!

(I just returned from DealerCON in Chicago where I spoke about the Evolution of Reputation Management and had some very insightful questions from dealers at the end of my workshop. I want to keep the conversation going here on ADM... If you were at the workshop you'll already know this, but I am a terrible salesman! I teach because I can't do ;) Please don't fear a tacky sales-pitch from me, but if you have a question, ask away.)

According to Tom Van Riper at Forbes Magazine: "So why can't buying a car be more straight forward and haggle-free, where the price on the sticker is final? Because we, as a society, don't want that. General Motors' (nyse: GM - news - people ) Saturn unit tried that approach a decade or so ago, and it flopped. The public has shown it likes to do battle with the car salesmen figuring they have a chance of winning--about as large a chance as winning the lottery, though.

Still, people keep arriving at car dealerships bracing for a fight. Some clearly relish the challenge, almost as if they're reliving their high school football days, trying to stare down a big rival. Nothing makes a buyer happier than driving off the lot with the car he wants and thinking he beat up the salesman for a good deal in the process.
