Who here makes or concepts ideas for Youtube videos for their dealership? Whether it uses humor to showcase the dealership, or provides information to help the customer with their vehicle (or a potential vehicle purchase) I'm interested to see your content!
I just started making videos and have been using some basic Photoshop skills + Windows Movie Maker to pump out Youtube content. My first creation is from a recent new owner event we had, where I shot some video of one of our guys talking to Prius owners about their SmartKey and replacing the battery. Pretty straightforward, but I figured I'd save the crazier ideas for later.
30k views on the first video? Wow!
I started creating video at our dealership this year, just different things like highlighting different departments and doing new vehicle walkarounds. Ken Beam is a great guy to talk to, he answered a lot of my questions when I first started doing walkarounds. To get sales people excited, we actually made it a competition where sales people faced off against one another in a vehicle walkaround and whoever won got their video on Youtube.

Great idea for a thread! We put a lot of energy into videos at Suzuki of Wichita as well:
Here is a page of 51 videos I did for Odonnell Chevy Buick. With over 2.1 million hits, that's an average of over 41,000 hits per video. One video has received over 1.6 million hits though. I call it a ZMOT video. It wasn't perfect, but I beat everyone to the punch and it has remained #1 on YouTube for a 2012 Camaro search.
You need to shoot all videos in 1080p resolution or higher. With phones, wirelessly, connecting with big screen televisions, don't you want to have your videos displayed in front of a big audience? Maybe it will, but not in 480p. Put your dealer advertising at the end and let the user choose to watch it or not. Don't stuff it down their throats. You aren't getting anywhere with that kind of advertising. I promise you that. If someone pursues your video, they are searching for Information, Education or Entertainment (not necessarily silly stand up comedy...just captivating, like a movie). They are not pursuing advertisements.
Hope this helps to start. Remember, your first video will be nothing like your 100th. Practice will bring perfection.
Thanks for the tips. I just recently got a new smartphone that can shoot in higher resolution, so I'm excited to get some better looking video.
Here's one for the service side of the auto industry.
