Ever sift through listings on Google Maps and wish yours could stand out more? The Places listing provides free advertising to promote your business on the web. Since millions of people search Google each
day, there is a high chance that many will see your business listing.

Consider a couple of tools from Google that can help your place page stand out from the competition. One costs a minimal price for an extra boost in advertising, and another is free. You’ll need to be able to
administer your pages through Google Places; if you don’t have access or
haven’t set up your Places page, click here for advice.

First, Google recently unveiled an add-on called Tags for Places. These show up with a yellow marker below the “place page” listing (as “Sponsored”) and also on the map. When a customer clicks the Tag, he’ll
see a coupon or whatever other item you choose.

Tags cost $25/month, with a 1-month free trial, and come in several categories. They can promote your website, photos, videos, coupons, restaurant menu, reservations page, or special business posts. You can
create these tags by going into your Google Places account, scrolling to the bottom, and clicking “Create Tag” (right below the listing of your Places pages).

Next, to advertise specials for free on your place page, use Coupons. These coupons can be great to promote monthly specials, internet-only deals, or whatever else you choose. In Google Places, you’ll see a
“Coupons” tab beside “Dashboard” at the top of the page. You can add a
title, minimal text, and even a small image, and choose for the coupon
to show on any or all of your pages. When a coupon is set up on a page,
the listing will provide a link to the coupon right in the search
listing with text like “1 coupon” (or however many coupons you have).
