Cybersnacking has become an entitlement it seems. Personal, never ending texting, personal cell conversations, and constant web browsing.....starting with the GM who feels he/she can't be critical of her department managers because he/she does knows he/she does it in excess who in turn can't criticize their salesperson or lube rack techs because he/she does it in excess. The newest form of laziness (loss of productivity) is the new entitlement for every employee in every department to not be expected to perform any meaningful task if his or her hand held is signaling for their attention. Anyone who says this is not a growing problem in their dealership has (1) their head in the sand or (2) is guilty of excessive cybersnacking themselves and do not want to slap their own hands or (3) is among the minority of dealerships who will not tolerate this behavior. A long time ago a proprietor said: "Check your guns at the door cowboy, I don't want any trouble here" In my opinion we need to wake up and say: "Check your phone at the door cowboy, I'd like to get some work done here" We are in an industry where we can not control many things. The issue of allowing our time to be consumed by endless and needless correspondence is well within our control.

My opinion and a buck will get you a coffee most places.

I'd really like to add a long response to this as I agree with 100% but I keep getting text messages and just have to answer them.   I'm Guilty! Need to find a cure.

LOL Mike.... I have read and have been told that the addiction can be very powerful. I have owned and used nearly everything that has ever been manufactured for communicating. If I did not own the "first one" it was because I simply did not arrive in line ahead of the folks with tents. I chose to not own a smart phone but insisted that those around me did. I read the data sheets and have employees demonstrate for me on their hand helds the abilities of each device.. Although I am not prone to addictive behavior, I thought I saw this one coming and did not want to lose my objectivity on the subject. I watched a generation of young people lose their social skills to a console. We were warned early on that the coming hand helds could have the potential to change the way we work and play. We were also cautioned that the lines between the two could become blurred. I think they have. To this day, if my phone rings and it is a member of my family I will answer it no matter where I am or what I am doing if it is while I am expected to be hell with everybody and everything for I am certain that my family has an emergency.

Thanks for your comment Mike!
