I agree with Matt - I seriously doubt many clients will actually download a particular app. just for a car dealership. The mobile site offers flexibility/options & is much more compatibile with today`s various of SmartPhones.

As as Matt said, you`re advertising your actual website address! *What could be better than that? >>>> Try it! www.DouglasVW.com on your phone.

*Interesting note - Last week we had 278 "Unique Visitors" on the Mobile site last week.
That`s quite a few people using their phones to access us on the web!

**The Mobile Sites are going to be huge in the next 2-3 years! Bet the ranch on this one kids!

I beg to differ. There are many dealers that take advantage of the popularity of the iTunes App store. Apple leads the pack with the most App downloads per day and the most Apps available to download. There are many industries that take advantage of this new marketing method and new way that helps improve customer retention. PUSH NOTIFICATION is great!! There is more functionality with an App than just having a mobile site. The main advantage is that you don't have to be online to use an App.

I work with an App development company that creates Apps for dealers for a very affordable price. The name of the company is Zocalo Labs and the product is called DealerApp. There has already been over 100 dealers that have purchased Apps for their customers to download. They also have the ability to create Apps for multi franchise dealers with proper routing. They are presently working on Apps for Blackberry and Android phones as well as future enhancements that customers can take advantage of.

There are reports available that keeps track of how many Apps are downloaded per country and per given time period. The feedback from the customers is unbelievable. They absolutely love it. This is also tracked via iTunes. Keep in mind that Apps work great with a mobile site. It is a great way to showcase a mobile site.

What are the costs to the dealer? Is there a contract term?
What does the app provide? Online Service Appointments? Inventory? Please advise..

For the version that is presently available, there is a one time setup fee of $995 and a $19.95 per month fee per App. Or for one App with multiple stores the pricing is $995 for the main store and $695 for each additional store plus the $19.95 per month per store. Volume discounting is available on the setup fee.

No contract term. Customers can book appointments, view inventory, one touch dial to all departments and emergency roadside, make car payments, and more....

  Is there integration from this app with the dealers DMS and/or CRM to actually "set" the appointment?

I know the smart phone app from www.specialtymobileapps.com,  has the API functionality to connect with any DMS/CRM, to actually set an appointment.

 

This is truly, in my opinion the only "customizable" app on the market today. Meaning, as seasons change, so can the look and feel, graphics, messages and more.

I have seen some examples of dealers with iPhone apps. I will send you some examples and contact information. The ones I have come across have been limited in functionality but definitely a growing segment by the way everyone loves iPhone apps.

I have to agree with Matt on this. I have not seen any of our dealers signing up for Apps when they have the option for a mobile website that works with iPhone or Android, you don't have to download anything, and it provides the same basic functionality.

My company currently offers Mobile Web Sites that work on 90% of mobile devices, not only the phones that support apps. So far we are offering Inventory with pictures and videos, Specials and Coupons, Map and Directions, touch to call, and a contact form that can be used for Sales inquiries, Parts inquiries/orders and/or Service Appointments. I have always had doubts about making customers load an app to see your site or make contact. So we have gone with the mobile site approach basically duplicating the critical parts of your full-size website. Having said all that we are also writing apps for iPhone, iPad and Android devices that will tie in real-time to our web site backend tool as well as our CRM tool. So before you purchase an app think about how you are going to get people to know about and download your app. You may need additional marketing to get the app to takeoff.
