Hi Everyone!

Since this is my first post, first the question, and then about me and my dealership.

I just discovered that the Craigslist Autoposter I'm using is not licensed by CL, and is therefore against their Terms of Service.  I'm not comfortable with violating CL TOS.  For reasons I'll detail below, I cannot subscribe to an inventory management system that includes a CL poster.

Thus my question.. does anyone know of a stand alone CL autoposter?  Preferably one that either bypasses the captcha or solves the captcha, with CLs blessing.

My dealership is Wheel Kinetics located in Tucson,

I am 31.  I started Wheel Kinetics at 21 as a high end wheel specialist for race cars to supplement my racing expenses.  Then, I wanted to drive my racecars on the street, but they would not pass emissions.  I got the bright idea to get a wholesale dealership with dealer plates.  A few years later, my brother quit at my Uncle's car lot (my family is going on 60 years in the car business) and joined me.

However, I thought I wanted more, so I ran off to law school.  My brother continued the business while I helped with Internet sales.  I worked for a biglaw intellectual property firm in San Diego as an associate attorney for a few years running patent litigation and prosecution, but I decided that cars were more fun!  I quit and moved back to Arizona.

Wheel Kinetics is Internet only (we have a storage lot with mechanics), and lately we've specialized in theft recoveries.

When I came back, none of the dealer web/CRM/inventory systems did what I wanted.  I abhor the cookie-cutter look, and none of them gave the flexibility that we needed, or allowed us to present vehicles with the detail we required.  I wanted the Internet to close sales, not generate leads.  So I taught myself graphic design, HTML, AJAX/Javascript/JQuery, PHP, and MySQL and created a complete inventory/CRM/negotiation/accounting system.  The website looks nothing like any vehicle website you've seen, and our customers seem to love it.  On our end, it logs into our bank account every hour and automatically codes costs, expenses, and gives our mechanics a custom screen to link parts/labor into a particular vehicle's cost basis. It even calculates our sales tax liability and prints out the state form, prefilled -- sign and file.

If anyone has questions, I'm happy to help.  Thanks!

Cool looking website

Hey Dennis, great website, great business model.

Unfortunately, as a general rule, all CL autoposters will violate the CL ToS. The purpose of the captcha is to prevent anything other than human, hand-entered posts. If you still want to pursue the CL route, I would suggest outsourcing the task (or trying a local intern) since it's a colossal drain on time to hand enter CL posts regularly.

Thanks Joseph and Brad for your kind words.

Brad, I think what you're queuing on is my extreme ignorance of the available dealer posting systems.  I called two (nameless) providers, and both wanted to sell me the entire website/inventory solution.  I explained that I understood if they couldn't parse out the CL poster, but I needed the cheapest solution with CL posting access.  No dice.  And I never got a real look at either CL system.

The CL ToS states no auto posting without CL consent.  This is where my ignorance kicks in -- I'm assuming that the various dealer services have CL consent.  (If that's the case, I'd also assume that CL would allow a solution without Captcha).

Bottom line is that I'm incredibly spoiled by the ToS violating auto poster, including auto-Captcha solver.  But from the sounds of it, I'm barking up the wrong tree and the $6/hr temp is the best avenue.

Dennis, I do not believe that either solution you looked at is actually playing by the rules. It's my guess that they're simply "flying under the radar" because nobody's abused the system enough to get CL's attention.

I pulled this from the CL Terms of Use this morning, it was under the section titled "Additionally, you agree not to:"

y) use any form of automated device or computer program that enables the submission of postings on craigslist without each posting being manually entered by the author thereof (an "automated posting device"), including without limitation, the use of any such automated posting device to submit postings in bulk, or for automatic submission of postings at regular intervals.
