Car Dealers, Internet Sales Managers and Interactive Marketing Professionals

I would like to share with you some things I am working on with one of my clients. This is something we started just two weeks ago and is moving along very nicely. Below are several ways we are using VIDEO with their INVENTORY:

As visitors browse through their inventory, they will see a VIDEO link on the specific vehicles that have videos: Real video walk-arounds are so much more engaging for the consumer than a slide show walk-around and also gives them the chance to introduce themselves and tell the consumer about the vehicle as if they were right there with them.

Video link

Once the person clicks on the vehicle, it displays the vehicle details, additional pictures and a video:
Being able to not only view additional pictures once they click on the vehicle details page but in this example using VinSolutions inventory management system, they also have the video they created, upfront and center for the consumer to click and watch.

Vehicle details page with video

Create a YouTube account: Once they upload the pictures and video into VinSolutions, the videos are automatically sent to their YouTube account with the correct info, links and tags. Besides watching the videos, consumers can also Subscribe to their videos, read about the dealership and click directly to their website from their YouTube page.

YouTube

Google Search Results: By having video walk-arounds of not only their USED vehicles but also their NEW vehicles, when people search for vehicles, their YouTube videos will not only show up in the organic search results with a thumbnail of the video for people to click on but it also displays the dealerships information.

YouTube Search Results

.....once they click on their video, it takes them to this page:

Thanks for all the info Chris! I know you posted this a while ago now but it is still very valid and informative.
Most dealers is Australia are still sticking to traditional methods of selling ie "get them in and we'll sell the car" type attitude.
While there is nothing specifically wrong with that as it is part of the whole picture, video is where the point of difference is.
Thanks again!

My pleasure Dean and I agree with you completely. Video is a great way to be unique and separate yourself from the competition!

Hey Tim

Nice to see that now that you're on the cover of the Rollin Stone magazine....oh sorry... well it is just as good you Super Star. Glad to hear you'll be presenting. I wish that they would have a lot more of the actual on the ground grunts helping with the seminars.

Now that the love me is over. what camera are you using. I realize my vids kind of, how do you say... suk. But for a $100 bucks what can you expect. I love the clarity.

Dean..if you're not doing even a little video your missing the boat. I don't do every car but a few select and as we sell a lot of heavy trucks I tend to lean that way. I get calls from all across the country just because of the videos and frankly the quality is awfull. If my videos can sell cars any else can too.

Has anyone else been approached by Autotrader with their latest and greatest video gadget. One of my stores signed up while I was away. BIG mistake. Paying double from what our inventory company doe's the same vids for.

Hi Tim, we haven't missed the boat exactly! Rather than youtube we have a custom made website for sending links to customers. We try and script it and be as proffesional as we can.
Most, as in 99% of dealers still don't do it down here.

Here's one my coleague Michael did today for a pre-owned Volvo customer as an example of what we do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgFoJbxa5QA

I have to agree that video is absolutely HUGE these days. People like to see all the ins and outs before they ever walk on to a dealership, in a store, or even into a house that they might be interested in buying. Posting videos on YouTube and then embedding them on the dealers website opens you up to the entire world. Even if they are looking to buy, they may very well know someone who is. That little Share button is awesome! Want to do one even better? Take your photos and put them up on Flickr and the other photo-sharing websites too. Then, submit your web pages with these videos and photos and submit them on StumbleUpon, Digg, and the other few hundred sites out there. Watch your analytics and you will see a difference almost immediately in your online traffic and if you do it right, that can only lead to increased sales.

I have been toying around with the idea of adding videos to my emails (not all of them). I want to make my process smoother. In the first two months I clearly focused on pounding the phones and getting better on that. I completely did not think about email. In the past, my internet process had effective use of email and we made a lot of deals thanks to it. Now, that I am back in a dealership and we have all of these technologies including video I want to to incorporate video into my emails. I plan to make a few videos from my flip camera and embed them into my email templates. I believe that it will be really strong to have it in an autoresponse.

Stan, you should make a video intro of yourself to send in an autoresponse or as a later follow up email.

Video in email has worked well in branding our internet department and differentiating us from everyone else.
