Serving Car Dealers, Internet Sales Managers, Marketing and Advertising Leaders

Many of us have used the dreaded Microsoft application known as PowerPoint to such an extreme level that the phrase "Death by PowerPoint" has been coined to describe what some of our victims experience... However, PPT is a powerful medium when used properly along with a data projecter and maybe even some speakers for sound effects and video clips. I am posting this forum as a place to upload and share PPT based files that you feel our effective, interesting and entertaining... I'll start of with 3 of my favorites, but what we really need is for YOU to upload yours!

If you have a presentation that needs to be created for a computer related service or task, I suggest using Tech Smith's Camtasia Studio (http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.asp) rather than PowerPoint. If you have the time and the $300 to burn on the program, even a novice can create professional looking HD video walkthroughs. The program will capture your on-screen movements of your computer and record voice and even your webcam. A little editing and you're done. We've used this to create video tutorials for our employees before on things like the CRM and outlook, but it can easily be used for marketing, vehicle presentations, blogging and more. I will try and find you guys some and upload a few examples.

E-mail is Killing You!
Type one wrong word and you’re dead… you will laugh when you recognize the real world examples of the good, the bad and the ugly sides of e-mail

Ralph Paglia will show attendees actual examples of best and worst practices in e-mail communication from his work with dealerships all over America. Participants will learn how to improve their e-mail communications with customers in ways that will increase their phone contact percentages and appointments scheduled. You will be able to implement words, phrases and templated e-mail communications on your first day back to start selling more cars on your second day. Paglia will show you what to avoid, and how to recognize the e-mail death traps that too many Internet sales specialists are using in thousands of dealerships right now. You will see examples of actual disaster scenes, sales mayhem and the brutality of gross profit destruction caused by as little as a single word that was poorly chosen. You will learn how to modify and improve your existing e-mail templates.

As a bonus for attending, session participants will be supplied with password protected access to a huge online library of e-mail templates that Paglia has collected from the most successful Internet sales dealerships in North America. Some are even written in Canadian! Learn how to start with selecting the right template and then insert a few key words that will engage your prospects at the other end of the lead in a way that will make them want to speak with you on the phone. You will gain rare insight into the pitfalls of e-mail when used inappropriately as a replacement for good phone communication skills. Learn how to avoid e-mail driven “collateral damage” and recognize when you are throwing e-mail grenades into your sales process. You will see lead management tactics that leverage e-mail to dramatically increase the number of phone conversations between your dealership and the people that sent those leads. Learn how to use e-mail the right way, so you can survive and thrive while others perish during the most challenging sales environment in over a generation.

Ralph,
Thank you for sharing! I’ve had the pleasure of working as a PowerPoint designer (among other things) for 10+ years, many of those spent with Cars.com.

Over the last year I’ve been working with our dealer education team to redesign our curriculum to ensure the information is clearly communicated and easy to read. The rule of thumb I’ve found most helpful in creating slides for the dealership audience is to remember that PowerPoint is presentation software – it’s designed to help you tell a story.

To that end, we try to keep the information on the slides themselves a minimal as possible and supplement our message with relevant hand outs (for examples, printed email leads, etc). We’ve also been more active in building links into the slides and going online, allowing us to show real-world examples of what’s discussed. It's been very helpful in keeping our presentations lean and making the best possible use of classroom/meeting time.

Although it’s not always been easy, I think we’ve made tremendous strides in the quality of our presentations over the last year and I’m excited to know other people value it as a tool as much as we do. I can’t wait to see what other files the members of ADM have to contribute!

Thanks again!
Amanda
