Automotive Digital Marketing Professional Community (ADM)

Serving Car Dealers, Internet Sales Managers, Marketing and Advertising Leaders

I have been exchanging messages with people online ever since the days of BBS's, and rarely have I ever met anyone who could absolutely CRUSH people with opposing opinions as effectively as my friend and antagonist, Mr. Paul Rushing.

I mean, look at what we have seen the past several weeks... Jim Ziegler, one of the toughest, most outspoken, in your face public speakers in the business was laid to waste by Paul Rushing and his keyboard!

Brian Dillon Ferris? Heck, Paul just about came closest to online bitch slappin' that poor guy more than i have ever seen in a community like this...

J. C. Hurst? Paul Rushing K.O.'d J.C. in the first round...

I think that Paul Rushing is like the Mohammed Ali of the Automotive Blogosphere! Would YOU ever bet against him in a war of words? Not me... I have caught a few direct hits from Paul in the last 8 months and would rather have him on my side, than the alternative...

So, is anyone out there willing to take a shot at debating-by-blog with Paul Rushing?
I don't even have to invite Mr. Rushing... Because he is like a Great White Shark and can smell blood on the web from many miles away... So, I am chumming!

Can you hear the sound track? Dooooo dum... Doooo dum... dum, dum, dum dum, dum.... I think I see a fin sticking out of the water! This could get bloody...

Dealing with negatives?
I love it when people disagree with my opinion. I love it even more their opinion is obfuscated by the exact point I was trying to make. In an online discussion with the ISM at Jim Glover Chevrolet he was using his knowledge of dealer micro sites as a lunching pad to try to destroy my opinion of using social networking to help build a brand and drive traffic to websites.

What his interest in doing so is beyond me. He has plenty of other things to worry about. His personal search engine reputation is horrible. His companies search engine reputation is horrible. His demeanor in online interactions is horrible.

I was going to show him how to get free pay per click advertising for his dealership and personal name on content he would control but why should I help an idiot? I probably wont!!

The good thing is the SERPS for my name is locked down tight for the time being. I am working on an email series now to help others do the same thing for themselves.

Stay connected book market this site for the announcement...

frank, by the way... I will be back here in Detroit on Monday and Tuesday to throw myself down on the carpet in front of your OEM's digital marketing executives and pay penance for the dialogue you and I had here on ADM. I have your force-fed website supplier to thank for the 3,000 extra miles of travel i will incur next week. Did you catch the part where they claim you use ADP websites? When you actually use Reynolds Web Solutions... That's how much those guys in Seattle care about being truthful. Also, as much as I have come to admire your opinions, have we met in person? Because according to the Seattle Web Mafia, you and i are involved in some sort of conspiracy to stir an uprising amongst your OEM's dealers... LOL, wouldn't it be great if we were actually capable of that?

You could be fidel castro and I can be che' guevarra!

Nah, on second thought, my libertarian political philosophies would never work with a communist manifesto...

Hey Ralph,

As an innocent bystander to your "plot" perhaps I can provide a list of my dealers that asked for links to ADM to understand how they were being"screwed" - that is a direct quote - and they weren't talking about you,- Frank, ADP or ADM! I would be happy to pay my own ticket to Detroit to defend the upside that Frank's comments - supported by your facts - created for the great number of ADP and GM dealers that I represent.

After all, what are friends for!

Well just for the record I have yet to meet Ralph but I am looking forward to it someday. I am currently a user of Reynolds and Reynolds products and I do not have an abundance of knowledge when it comes to ADP, so I am not sure how that ever became an issue. Ralph enjoy your trip and please let me know how everything went. I will just stay here and sell some cars. Oh by the way this last wens I had a meeting with three GM reps and Jim Glover and Steve Barnes the GM here at Jim Glover Chevrolet. Interesting meeting. Was just a confirmation of everything I have been saying.

I'm only peeking in this thread because my ORM program alerted me that someone had mentioned DealerRefresh.com

Frank, thanks for the mention and your comments.

You said "There is a little button it is called a delete button and the funny thing is if you push on it the e-mail goes away and you do not have to be bothered with it, wow what a concept. Try it, works great."

Wouldn't it be great if you didn't have to hit the delete button? Tell your customer that the next time you get a complaint from one that you sent too many emails to (according to them). Trust, it won't wont fly. I know from experience (long long time ago).

I do have a question for Philip. I enjoy reading your comments and posts but how on earth do you find to time to write so damn much?

I beg you, could you do a post on time management skills? :)

Hi Jeff,

Funny - my wife asks me that all the time! One answer is that I really do work 24/7 with a Blackberry or computer within reach - even in the pool - literally! I guess the retail "car guy" in me never learned what "time off" was and when I transferred my focus into advertising/public relations/consulting I still couldn't figure it out!

The truth is that even 24/7 wouldn't allow me to keep up with my current work load but fortunately I "front loaded" a lot of my daily operational and organizational demands on my time when I engineered the online communication/distribution system that drives AdAgencyOnline.Net. I also was smart enough to build a team that was smarter than I am and I learned what to "delegate" and what to "do." Also, our operating system links us all together so I can inspect what I expect online in a shared data base that hosts all steps of the process so we are all on the same page real time - including our clients.

I self delegated the "discovery" part of our responsibility to our dealer and vendor clients to me since I know what I don't know - but more importantly, I know where to find out. The forums and blog/press releases that I write are usually either "fact finding missions" or networking tools used to leverage shared resources through strategic partnerships. They are part of my discovery process with the double sided advantage of creating exposure for me and mine to earn new business. Multi-tasking isn't limited to people - I use it in my work product as well.

My use of technology, applications and processes served me well when I was running my car dealerships and it helped me build Ad Agency Online so I naturally suggest it to my dealer and vendor clients. Obviously, you will recognize that as the bulk of the subjects that I write about and they justify my investment of time.

You probably were just being nice when you asked me to explain how I manage my time - but I decided to take you literally and answer you with this reply. If you were just saying it to be nice - NEVER MIND! If you really want some answers to improve your time management - read my blog on "Outsourcing" on my page since it discusses a lot of what I just said. After all, what are friends for!

Wow what a mess it seems ol frank has caused I am sorry for any disruption in your day to day lives, at any rate Paul I will be tossing you a call as I think we can work well together, I may have some work for you out that way.

Jeff great to see you pop in and hello to you also, I have to say it really is just an e-mail and it is simple to make it go away, it is a shame when we as americans or otherwise are so put off by an electronic message that can be deleted with the touch of a button. If you dont want it? Well do what ever you want with it. such a simple thing, and we all get junk right? I did tell a customer in an e-mail the exact qoute I posted here, I have not heard from him yet.

Phillip, sorry if my post has caused you problems I just call it the way I see it, I thought it was good information. I just wished more people would throw in their two cents worth.

Frank - maybe I missed something but my only perspective of your forum was that it helped me surface a problem/solution for my clients? No apologies needed - thanks for the detailed heads up and persistent follow up in developing news on the subject!

Also, I love Paul - but if you have new business to throw to somebody I will rely on and old adage ' If you want something done - give it to a busy person" That said, I am never to busy to help you and the members of ADM. After all, what are friends for!

Jeff,

Now that we know how to get you engaged here at ADM, you can expect to see www.DealerRefresh.com mentioned frequently!

By any chance, are you going out to Costa Mesa, CA for the ENG Automotive CRM Summit next week?

Hey Jeff,

I even have your smiling face Digital Dealer cover page photo in featured image rotation on the home page... My theory is that it is "chick bait" to get women to join ADM, and considering the fact that we have over 300 active women automotive professionals as members, I'd say the strategy is working... Thank you for your help!

Ooops, I almost forgot the secret "Kershner Bait"... www.DealerRefresh.com ... I think I am beginning to get the hang of this online "chumming" process to bring the automotive internet "Great White Sharks" into the ADM community.
